Educational Sciences Ethics Comittee

The Educational Sciences Ethics Committee, operating under the Near East University Scientific Research Ethics Committee, meets on announced dates to evaluate applications. Completed documents submitted by the end of business hours on the specified application date will be placed on the agenda for the next Ethics Committee meeting. Files placed on the agenda will be responded to within one month of the date of the nearest meeting. All researchers wishing to conduct research within the university are required to adhere to the following scientific ethical principles.

A Primary Data Form must be completed for data collected directly from individuals or sources (human, animal, plant, and/or terrestrial) through scientific research techniques such as surveys, observations, experiments, and interviews.

A Secondary Data Form must be completed for analysis of existing data collected by someone else.

A Title Change Form must be completed for transactions requiring only a title change, without changing the purpose, sub-purposes, or methodology.

The Primary Data Form must be completed by the researcher personally, while the Secondary Data Form and Title Change Form must be completed by the thesis/project advisor.

All items on the relevant form must be completed in detail in applications to the Scientific Research Ethics Committee. All files requested by the Scientific Research Ethics Committee must be scanned, signed, and initialed. Incomplete forms will not be accepted at the next meeting.

In the event of an ethically problematic situation that was unforeseen during the research planning phase but develops during implementation, researchers should consult the relevant committee regarding the need to re-apply for ethical permission.

Researchers must ensure that potential harm to humans or animals is minimized. Furthermore, even the smallest potential environmental damage must be considered and minimized. Researchers should review the policies of their institute's ethics committees for more information on these matters.

Research participants have the right to withdraw from participation at any time during the study and to refuse the use of their personal information. In such cases, data collected from individuals who refuse participation cannot be included in the study.

All participants must complete an informed consent form. If this is not possible, researchers must state this, along with valid reasons, in their ethics committee application form. Participants must be clearly informed in the informed consent form about the purpose of the study, the data collection methods, and the procedures to be followed during the subsequent publication of the information. Participants have the right to refuse the publication of their personal information. If deception, a technique frequently used in experiments, is involved, the explicit purpose of the study must be explained to participants as soon as possible.

If incentives are offered to participants within the scope of the research, the incentives given must be within acceptable limits.

It is the researcher's responsibility to ensure that no information that could reveal their names or identities is published or disclosed unless specific permission is obtained from the participants (either verbally or in writing).

Researchers must have no conflicts of interest with participants. If such a situation is anticipated, it must be specifically stated in the ethics committee application and the necessary steps must be taken to minimize the impact of this conflict of interest on the participants.

Researchers must adhere to scientific methods and ethical principles regarding audio and visual recordings, as well as data collected through social media.

Researchers wishing to collect data from minors (18 years of age and under) must obtain permission from their guardians (e.g., parents). If data is collected from minors affiliated with an institution, special permission must also be obtained from that institution.

The Scientific Research Ethics Committee does not accept applications for research that has completed the data collection period. Research cannot begin without the necessary permission. This is a University rule, and failure to comply will be considered improper conduct. In such cases, the University assumes no responsibility for the work conducted and any subsequent publications. Ethics permissions can never be granted after the research. Data collected without ethical permission cannot be used. The University assumes no responsibility for researchers who fail to submit the necessary applications and obtain the necessary permissions in a timely manner.

If your study involves activities that could affect human, environmental, or animal health, please submit your application to the Health Sciences Committee. If you are unsure whether your research has such an impact, please consult your affiliated ethics committee.

To apply for ethics permission, applicants must complete the form below electronically and send it to [email protected]. Please attach the relevant documents to the application form.
